For best results, start using MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel as soon as your wound has closed and continue using daily for at least 8 weeks on new scars and 3-6 months on older scars. Make sure the scab has come off naturally and any stitches have been removed. On older scars you may start using our scar gel immediately. Do not apply to broken skin.
MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel users start to see noticeable improvement after 14 days of daily usage (1), with optimum improvement after 8 weeks.

MEDERMA® Products
MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel can be used on atrophic scars, such as acne and chicken pox scars. It may help to smooth and soften the edges of the pox mark but will not cause the indented area to fill in. By smoothing the edges, the mark may become less noticeable.
You can begin using MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel as soon as your wound has closed or your stitches have been removed. MEDERMA® is not intended for use on open wounds. If a scab has formed, wait until this falls off. While there is still a scab or stitches present, keep your wound clean and covered.
Some people prefer a gel to a cream. Both MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel and MEDERMA® PM Intensive Overnight Cream work to help improve the appearance of scars with a once-daily (or nightly) application. Mederma Advanced Gel may be used at any time of day. Whereas, MEDERMA® PM Intensive Overnight Cream is formulated to reduce the appearance and texture of a scar overnight. It contains Tripeptol™, a skin nourishing complex with peptides, collagen, and antioxidants that promotes healthy looking skin while you sleep.
Anyone with a scar can use MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel. However, all MEDERMA® products should be used as directed. MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel provides effective scar care by visibly reducing the appearance of scars from just 14 days* (reported by consumers of ASG & PM products). MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel is suitable for users 6 years old and above.
MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel with improved formulation and Rovisome Technology, convenient application regimen of once application per day. Start seeing the result from 14 days and for optimal result, continue to use for 8 weeks. MEDERMA® Proactive Gel is recommended to use multiple (2-3x) applications daily for as long as 4-6 months for optimal result.
MEDERMA® PM Intensive Overnight Cream and MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel are both composed with cepalin, an extract from Onion. While there is no clinical specific study done on pigmentation with MEDERMA® PM Intensive Overnight Cream or MEDERMA® Advanced Scar Gel, however some scientific studies report an effect of onion extract on skin pigmentation.
